Government committee to minimize effects of NPT violation

October 1997 report, p. 7, 19: "The counterpart was asked to provide information regarding the inauguration, mandate, membership, authority and duration of operation of the Governmental Committee that had been referred to, during the first presentation, as having been established, inter alia, to "reduce the effect of NPT violation to the minimum."

During subsequent inspections in December 1997, the Iraqis claimed that the governmental committee never existed at all, despite the fact that Iraq itself first revealed the committee's existence. (December 1997 report, 5-9; January 1998 report, 13-15) The IAEA said in April 1998 that it had no information for further investigation on this issue. (January 1998 report, 28)
